This course provides students with an understanding of: HTML tags, creation and manipulation of graphics, design and layout of web pages, publishing of web pages to the World Wide Web, and editing web pages. Programs used in this course include: MS FrontPage, Adobe Go Live, Adobe Live Motion, and Adobe Photoshop.
 


clVideo Production
1 Credit Prerequisites: Teacher Interview
This course provides students with an understanding of: CNN Student Bureau broadcasting/journalism curriculum (covering story ideas, planning, producing, and scripting stories, broadcast new production), live broadcasting, digital video camera operation, digital video editing and software, creating effective sound and lighting, and filmmaking techniques. Programs used in this course include: Sonic Foundry Video Factory, Vegas Video, Adobe Photoshop, and Acid Music. This course can be repeated for credit. Students requesting this class must complete teacher interview before placement. $25 fee is required per year.

clDigital Photography
1 Credit
This course provides students with an understanding of digital photography and its applications. Students will learn composition techniques and use of equipment, and in-depth photography critiquing skills. Programs used include: Adobe Photoshop for photo editing and for portfolio presentations MS PowerPoint and MS FrontPage. $25 fee is required per year.

clAnimation
1 Credit
This course provides students with an understanding of computer animation and its applications. Programs used in this course include: Alias/Wavefront Maya.

clSpeech and Debate
1 Credit
This course is designed for students to learn how communication is used in their daily lives and in a variety of careers. Areas to be covered will be: skills for overcoming fear, increasing confidence, enhancing listening skills, and developing organizing strategies through one-to-one communication, group communication, and public speaking. Debate will focus on how to research debate topics and properly communicate their points. Part of the grade will be participating in a live debate competition with other schools.

clJournalism and Yearbook
1 Credit Prerequisites: Acceptance of Application
Yearbook is the student production of a book that covers the activities and people of that school year. This laboratory experience allows students to use their skills in photography, layout, writing, word processing, marketing, and graphic design to produce a yearbook. This course may be repeated for credit. $25 fee is required per year. Students requesting this class must complete the application process before placement.

clSpanish 1-2
1 Credit
This course meets university and graduation requirements. This course is an introduction to the language and culture of Spanish-speaking countries. This class consists of the four basic skill areas of writing, speaking, reading, and listening comprehension. These skills and the culture element are addressed through basic conversational and grammatical structures.

clSpanish 3-4
1 Credit Prerequisites: Spanish 1-2
This course meets university and graduation requirements. This course is a continuation of the study of the language and culture of Spanish-speaking countries. The speaking, reading, writing, and listening comprehension skills are reviewed and reinforced. These skills and the culture continue to be addressed through the use of basic conversational and grammatical structures.

clFrench 1-2
1 Credit
This course meets university and graduation requirements. This course is an introduction to the language and culture of French-speaking countries. This class consists of the four basic skill areas of writing, speaking, reading, and listening comprehension. clFrench 3-4
1 Credit Prerequisites: French 1-2

clDrama 1-2 & 3-4

This course is designed to teach students basic acting skills and vocabulary related to theatre. Students will explore the history and basics of theatre the semester. There will be a mandatory performance night for all students taking this course. $25 fee is required per year.

clFilm 1-2 & 3-4
1 Credit
This course answers the question how do you study film. The class introduces students to the major methods of film analysis, based on the major theories and topics of contemporary film scholarship.

clStudent Council
1 Credit
This course is designed for students to plan all student activities for the year including, but not limited to: prom and other dances, pep assemblies, service projects, lunch program, and fundraising.

clArt
1 Credit
This course will explore a student-driven variety of media & address the Arts Vocabulary as defined in the Arizona State Standards.

clWomen's Personal Fitness
1 Credit
This course is designed so that the student explores the dimensions of wellness including: physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, social, and occupational. Students will study the importance of balancing these components and their interactions. Students will participate in various activities including: yoga, pilates, aerobics, etc.

clIntroduction to Psychology
1 Credit Prerequisites: Junior or Senior course only
This course is designed to provide the student with the understanding of human behavior. Topics include: unlocking human potential; physiological psychology; sensation and perception; learning about learning; memory and intelligence; personality theories; and mental and behavioral disorders. This course also includes a brief introduction to psychologists such as Freud, Skinner, and Maslow.

clDance
1 Credit
This course will explore ballet, tap, modern, jazz & hip-hop dance. There will be one mandatory performance night each semester. There is a $25 fee, which covers leotards, tights & tap shoes.

clIntermediate Dance
1 Credit Prerequisites: Dance 1-2, 3-4, or 5-6 or instructor permission.
This is a class for students who want to take their dance Step farther. Choreography, props & costume design will be explored addition to ballet, tap, modern, jazz & hip-hop. There is a $25 fee, which covers leotards, tights & tap shoes.

clCollege & Career
1 Credit
This course is required and to be taken during the junior or senior year. This course focuses on college and career preparation. Some areas of emphasis are: time management, job-interviewing techniques, resume writing, scholarship research, career research, teamwork, and team participation. These students are responsible for planning Westwind's Career Day.

clWeight Training
1 Credit
This course is designed to introduce the student to weight training and fitness through the use of the campus weight room. The class will focus on proper weightlifting techniques, cardiovascular workouts and nutrition. Students will become familiar with core lifts such as the bench press, squats, curls and military press.

clMythology
1 Credit
An introductory survey of classical mythology and its appearance in Greek and Roman Literature.

clForensic Science
1 Credit Prerequisites: "C" or better in Biology & Chemistry or taking Chemistry concurrently.
This course focuses on various aspects of forensic science and modern criminal investigation analysis. Topics include the structure and function of the human skeletal system, which will be applied to forensic investigation and identification of remains. In addition, the course will cover selected topics in toxicology, drug and alcohol abuse, serology, and terrorist and disaster response and medical procedures, ballistics, forensic DNA analysis, fingerprint and trace evidence interpretation, explosive incident and arson investigation.

clSociology
1 Credit
This course examines the basic nature of human relationships, customs, institutions, social structure, and culture. The course teaches the basic concepts, methods and perspectives of sociology as a social science; and it uses them to consider such topics as family life, groups and organizations, sex and age roles, minorities and social classes, religious and political movements, and social problems.
