Middle School Physical
Education Syllabus
Physical education is an essential part of the total
education program. Daily physical education programs promote
the physical growth and development of children and youth
while contributing to their general health and well being.
These programs are based on a planned sequence of
experiences in a wide variety of activities including timed
runs, physical strength training and testing, sports
activities in football and basketball. This course will be
based on the Arizona state high school physical education
objectives.
Class Expectations:

Everyone in the classroom (teachers, students, etc.) will be
treated with respect and courtesy.

Arrive to class on time

Dress in your athletic attire. (Athletic shorts and
Westwind t-shirt.) Athletic footwear is required. *If you
are not dressed for athletic activities, you will be
considered absent from class*. 3 points will be deducted
from your overall participation grade for every day you are
not dressed for PE.

Complete all physical activities to the best of your
ability. Give your best effort!
Consequences:

1st offence: Warning

2nd offence: Detention

3rd offence: Office referral

Steps in the consequences may be skipped for serious
behavior problems.
Grading Scale:

100-90% A
-
89-80% B
-
79-70% C
- 69-65% D
- 64% and below F
Absences:
Students who receive an excused absence will have as many
days to complete the assignment as the student was absent.
Make-up running/weight training testing will be done the
next day student is in class.
Tardy policy:

1st: Warning

2nd (or more) tardy : Detention

Students who are excessively tardy will be referred to the
office.
Attire:
Athletic attire is required to participate. Athletic
shorts, Westwind t-shirt and athletic shoes. During
winter months sweatpants and sweatshirt is acceptable.
Students who are not dressed in athletic attire cannot
participate in class.
3 points will be deducted from your overall participation
grade.
Grading Policy:
- All grades are based on a point system.
- Class participation =
60 pts.
Athletic testing (40 yrd dash, mile run, push-ups, sit-ups,
pull-ups etc) = 20
pts.
Written testing (equipment, muscle groups etc.) =
10 pts
Sportmanship = 10 pts
