Our curriculum is created by aligning our objectives with the Arizona State Standards in each and every content area. The curriculum is comprehensive, and your student will have every opportunity to perform well academically at Westwind.
Please take a look at what courses we offer.
Course Credits
1. A unit of credit is granted for work completed in a subject that meets the number of hours based on the North Central Association for accreditation standards. At Westwind one credit is granted for work completed that is the equivalent of one semester work.
2. Students are expected to enroll as full-time student. Exceptions to this are seniors who have the appropriate credits and are able to graduate on time.
Graduation
Beginning with the class of 2006 students will be required to demonstrate competency of Arizona State Standards in reading, writing, and mathematics. These tests will be given in the spring of a student’s sophomore year with additional opportunities available during their junior and senior years should they fail to demonstrate competency at the end of their sophomore year. Passing all portions of the AIMS test is required for graduation.

Credits Required for Admission to State Universities
When students complete the above 24 credits they will be university ready. The ACT and SAT is required for admission to all in-state and out-of-state universities. It is HIGHLY recommended that this exam be taken during the spring of the junior year. It may be taken again, if desired. It is also recommended that college applications be submitted in early summer following the junior year.
If you have any other questions please set up an appointment with the school counselor.
GRADE POINT AVERAGE (GPA)
Grade Point Average is calculated for each student for the purpose of reflecting a student’s academic achievement over his/her high school experience.
Grade points are provided for each grade as follows:
Grade Grade Points
A 4
B 3
C 2
D 1
F 0
To calculate the GPA, you add the sum of the grade points and divide by the number of credits taken. The calculation is as follows:
GPA = Sum of grade points___
Number of credits taken
Credits taken after the eighth grade promotion will be reflected on the high school transcript and will be figured into the student’s GPA.
Honors courses are offered at Westwind Preparatory Academy. Honors credits are earned for successful completion of these courses. Honors credits are weighted 1.333 as compared to 1.0 for regular classes.
